Well the trip's off to a bit of a rocky start. I'll get back to that later.
Today was a delightful day in "the city" seeing lots of the touristy stuff I hadn't had a chance to see yet. I took some pictures of people taking pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge ...
Horace Greeley ...
The famous Tijuana Yacht Club ...
Economy Candy, where they have some interesting stuff ...
Chinatown Lumber ...
Here's a sign for one of New York's famous drugs parks ...
Went to the Tenement Museum of the Lower East Side, and disappointingly wasn't allowed to take photos inside, but I was able to snap a photo of this witty and useful fan they gave us as the tenement was not air conditioned (they took the fan back at the end) ...
And I even saw a little of the friendly advice New Yorkers are known for:
But the real highlight was that I got to take a little self-guided reality tour of my new favorite show, Flight of the Conchords. Here's me in front of the "New Zealand Consulate" (clearly not the actual New Zealand Consulate, but if you watch you know what I mean) ...
And me in front of Bret and Jermaine's apartment.
This was a particularly exciting find, because when I checked Wikipedia to find the address of the building, it said it was 25 Henry Street, and I discovered that it was in fact 28 Henry Street, on the opposite side of the street. This led me to perform my first ever edit to Wikipedia!
You can see it here. Possibly not my last.
So I continued the Conchords-themed adventure by going to a taping of a TV comedy showcase by Eugene Mirman, who plays Bret and Jermaine's landlord on the show. It was a killer show and I was having a wonderful time, until he started doing a bit about smuggling objects into and out of Canada, at which point I realized that I had left my passport at home. As you can probably see from the sub-title above, I will be venturing into and out of Canada on this trip, and my passport will be required, particularly for the venturing out part. And so, at about 3am, I will be boarding a train back home, to get my passport, and come right back to New York, where I will be meeting my associate to continue with the auto portion of the trip.
A bit of a setback, for sure, but as they say on the bridge, I just gotta hang in there, baby.
So now I leave you in suspense, while I prepare to board a train.
