Schuss!

Today was a special treat – a trip to Snoqualmie for some of my first-ever skiing west of the Rockies.

While Seattle is known for its rain, and more recently, for completely freaking out when a dusting of snow hits the ground, you only have to drive about an hour out of town to find ample amounts of the white stuff waiting for you.

I hadn't been skiing in a while. In fact, my last time skiing was when I was in Switzerland about three years ago. While I have ample opportunity to go when I'm at home (not to mention skis and equipment), I just never seem to find the time except when I'm on vacation. Despite being rusty and not being able to handle anything too aggressive on my short, flimsy rentals, I had a nice relaxing time. Except for that one time I found myself on a rather difficult black diamond run, a predicament I somehow still managed to get myself out of unharmed.

After coming back, I ended my stay in the neighborhood in the same place I started it – this brew pub up on Meridian Ave. I stopped in there for a pint and a bite after driving up from the airport, a trip that was much more frustrating than it ought to have been. And I stopped in there again for another before heading downtown for the second phase of my Seattle stay.

On the way out I passed by, but sadly did not go into, Dick's, a well-known chain of drive-up burger joints.

Back in downtown, some of the sights that were interesting in the daytime became more magical at night.

Time to eat it was, and while we were tempted by the jelly bar, we decided to go to the Steelhead Diner, which was pretty good.

And another day in Seattle begins tomorrow.
